Celebrity Drivers: Calbert Cheaney – this Evansville native is currently director of player development at IU’s men’s basketball program, is a former 13-year NBA player, remains the Big Ten's all-time men’s leading scorer, and was National Player of the Year and a three-time All-American while attending IU; Debbie Dewey -- executive director of Ivy Tech Community College Evansville's Ivy+ Career Link program, plus past resident of GAGE (now merged with E-REP) and also former president of Indiana American Water and Missouri American Water; Ange Humphrey – host of Channel 25’s Lifestyles program in Henderson, KY, plus founder and pastor of Evansville’s progressive and inclusive Fresh Air congregation; Roger Kalia – music director of Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra, Symphony New Hampshire, and Orchestra Santa Monica, as well as co-founder & music director of Lake George Music Festival; Phil Smith – chief of Evansville Police Department and also the 2020 recipient of the U.S. Attorney General’s Award for Distinguished Service in Policing, which is given annually to only 23 police officers nationwide; Greg Wathen – senior advisor for economic development for SVN|The Martin Group, retired president of Evansville Regional Economic Partnership (E-REP), twice named to North America's Top 50 Economic Developers list; and Linda E. White – vice-president & chief administrative officer of Deaconess Henderson Hospital as well as former president & chief executive officer of the entire Deaconess Health System
Unusual and popular EVs participating: 2024 Tesla Cybertruck (winner of People’s Choice – Cruise-In trophy); 2024 Tesla Model Y Long Range AWD (winner of Best of Show – Cruise-In trophy); 2024 GMC Hummer EV (winner of People’s Choice award for dealers' EVs); 2024 Chevy Silverado EV (winner of the Best of Show award for dealers' EVs). Besides the Hummer EV provided by the auto dealer, there was an owner-operated 2024 GMC Hummer EV SUV 1st Edition participating in the cruise-in portion of our event. The cruise-in also had a 2023 Kia Niro Wave EV who's owner was operating a ham radio from his car, to demonstrate how EVs can serve as mobile disaster units in emergencies. And Vanderburgh County Sheriff Noah Robinson, who served as one of our Celebrity Drivers last year, brought his department's new Tesla cruiser to provide ride-alongs to any interested attendee.
Other activities provided for attendees to enjoy: live music, interactive storytelling, robotics demonstrations, STEM demonstrations, inflatable 50' obstacle course, nature crafts, food trucks, and 15 exhibitors including e-bikes, e-golf carts and battery-operated lawn & garden equipment

To the right is Katie's husband, Jose Manning. Katie and Jose are each EV owners who have participated in all 3 annual EV ride-&-drives held in Evansville. In 2023 and again this year, the Mannings also served as volunteers at the event, helping to position all the cruise-in vehicles including a friend's Hummer EV that they drove to EVs 4 EVVeryone 2024. |
Event Description
Local nonprofit Tri-State Creation Care is hosting its third annual EV cruise-in coupled with test drives and ride-alongs, with this year's name revised to EVs 4 EVVeryone. Sat., Sept. 28, Noon-4pm CT, at Evansville Day School, 3400 N. Green River Rd., Evansville, with title sponsor being D-Patrick. Free & open to the public (although a $10 donation is suggested for test drives or ride-alongs).
Auto dealers will bring various new EVs for adult attendees to test drive. Plus EV owners will have their vehicles participating in the cruise-in portion, including Vanderburgh County Sheriff Office's new Tesla cruiser. And there will be e-bikes, e-carts and battery-operated lawn & garden equipment to check out, along with companies tabling for energy-efficient appliances.
Entertainment for the whole family includes: robotics and paper-making demonstrations; interactive storytelling; live music & a DJ; vendors; food trucks; four $100 door prizes; local Celebrity Drivers (Calbert Cheaney, Ange Humphrey, Roger Kalia, Phil Smith, Daniela Vidal, Greg Wathen, Linda White, Eric Xiao) to lead off the day’s test drives; kids’ activities; an inflatable 50' obstacle course; butterfly ambassadors; nature crafts; and the nearby Master Gardeners Display Garden.
