Jul 29 2025
Day: | Tuesday, July 29, 2025 NOTE: this event has already happened. |
Time: | 8:00 - 9:45 pm EDT |
Location: | Allamuchy Fire Department 284 Alphano Road Allamuchy, NJ 07820 |
Event Report
NJEVA and EZ Ride Transportation Management Association co-developed the program. We were able to pool 4 Fire Houses into a single venue to offer the First Responder EV Awareness (aka training) program to Allamuchy, Budd Lake, Hope Twp and Green Twp Fire Departments. In total, 50 firefighters attended the program.
The area is rural and we had a hard time getting enough EV volunteers to sign up.
NJEVA used Facebook advertisement but this did not deliver any results.
At the end, we were lucky to get 8 EVs. Two no shows.
There was a one-hour presentation by Mike Hornsby, and a 1.5-hour hands-on activity and EV show, both in the firehouse.
Eight EVs were displayed: Smart ED, Chevy Bolt, Nissan Leaf, Ford F150 Lightning, Lucid Air, Tesla Model S, Model 3 and Model Y. (model years from 2013 - 2024).
Among attendees were Tracey Woods from Sustainable Jersey and Tom Moloughney, NJEVA member and YouTuber operating the State of Charge channel. Tracey arrived in a 2018 Nissan Leaf, Tom brought a 2022 Ford F150 Lightning.
The Allamuchy FD provided pizza, cookies and soda.
After the event, a survey was fielded via Google Form. The survey responses indicate strongly that the First Responders appreciated the event, acknowledged that they learned a lot. They praised both parts, the presentation and the hands-on activities. They thought it was just right, speaking of the length of both parts. One respondent admitted that they are now more likely to adopt an EV.

The person in the light blue shirt at the bottom is Tom Moloughney (State of Charge). The Smart ED is being plugged into the F150 Lightning and charging at 6.6 kW. Being able to charge, the driver of Smart ED did not have to stop for a charge on their way home. |
Event Description
New Jersey EVA and EZ Ride are pleased to offer an EV awareness program for first responders in the State. This program is particularly suitable for firefighters and aims to increase awareness of EV-specific safety procedures for first responders deployed to a scene involving electric vehicle collisions. It comprises one hour of in-class presentation at 7 PM followed by 1.5 hrs of EV show, which covers hands-on inspections of various plug-in electric vehicles.
This block covers the EV show only.
Dinner will be provided to all who bring their EV.
For effective planning, we are asking EV volunteers to register by July 22.
Please arrive by 7:50 PM. Vehicles will be parked inside of the firehouse.
